Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS)

Reducing energy use in buildings through energy efficiency measures has an array of benefits that range from job creation to utility bill savings to environmental benefits and improved health conditions for people in the community. The City of St. Louis has adopted the “Building Energy Awareness” ordinance that signed into law St. Louis’ Building Energy Performance Standard in May of 2020, making St. Louis the fourth jurisdiction in the country and the first in the Midwest to adopt this ambitious law to mandate significant reduction in building energy use. All properties 50,000sf and larger will need to achieve the standard EUI compliance by May 2025.
